Hello, my name is Cierra, and I am a Resident in Counseling here at Artisan. My primary goal is to provide a safe, warm, and highly supportive environment for all my clients, ensuring you feel heard, understood, and respected throughout your therapeutic journey. I believe a secure, nonjudgmental foundation is essential for meaningful growth and exploration. My counseling philosophy is rooted primarily in the humanistic, person-centered approach, where I strive to build a strong, authentic therapeutic alliance that gives you the autonomy to explore what matters most to you at your own pace, as it’s your journey and you hold the map.
In addition to this person-centered foundation, I utilize practical, evidence-based tools from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to develop skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. I emphasize honesty and engagement within our sessions and encourage clients to actively participate in their treatment both inside and outside of my office.
Academically, I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School. Prior to my graduate studies, I attended Christopher Newport University, where I earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Childhood Studies. My experience in the field includes working in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as a Behavior Technician, where I had the privilege of supporting children and adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This background has reinforced my commitment to creating an inclusive space where clients of all backgrounds can feel comfortable sharing their experiences and working toward their goals.
