The Artisan Counseling Team

Traci Powers, Resident in Counseling

Counseling with Traci:

As a Resident in Clinical Mental Health Counseling specializing in religious trauma, I am dedicated to supporting individuals who have experienced the emotional and psychological effects of toxic or harmful religious environments. My practice focuses on helping clients navigate the profound impact that religious belief systems, abuse, and cultural expectations can have on their mental health and well-being.

With a compassionate, trauma-informed approach, I work with individuals to process their experiences, heal from spiritual wounds, and rebuild a sense of self outside of their past beliefs. Whether you're struggling with feelings of shame, guilt, anxiety, trouble making decisions, or loss of identity related to your religious upbringing, I offer a safe, nonjudgmental space where we can explore your experiences at your pace. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming.

I hold a BA in Religion and Master of Divinity from the Campbell University Divinity School and a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William and Mary. In addition, I am completing my certificate in Religious Trauma Studies from the Global Center for Religious Research. I have additional training in trauma recovery and religious deconstruction. I use evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including CBT, IFS, ACT, somatic therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Brainspotting tailored to each client's unique journey. My goal is to empower you to reclaim your life, understand the deep roots of your trauma, and build a healthy, fulfilling future aligned with your authentic beliefs and values.

I offer individual therapy and group sessions for those seeking support with religious trauma recovery, spiritual abuse, or navigating the emotional complexities of leaving a high-demand religious group. If you're looking for a therapist who truly understands the nuances of religious trauma and the path to healing, I am here to help.
