Getting Started

How do I schedule my first appointment?

Call us at 757.503.2819 or reach out through our contact page. Our team will ask a few questions about what you are looking for and help you schedule with a counselor who fits your needs. See our New Client Information page for a step-by-step overview.

How do I choose the right counselor?

You can browse profiles on our Counselors page and filter by location, such as Suffolk. If you are not sure who to choose, tell us a little about your goals and preferences, and we will help match you.

What types of counseling do you offer?

We offer individual, couples, family and group counseling, both in person and through telehealth. Our counselors use many approaches, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, art therapy, brainspotting, IFS, the Gottman Method, EFT, ACT and more.

Where are your offices, and what areas do you serve?

We have offices at 11713 Jefferson Ave., Suite 200, Newport News, VA 23606 and 1020 Bon Secours Drive, Suite 210, Suffolk, VA 23435. We serve Newport News, Hampton, Yorktown, Poquoson, Williamsburg, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and offer telehealth across Virginia.

When are appointments available?

We offer weekday and evening appointments, along with some limited weekend hours. Availability varies by counselor, so please contact us for current openings.

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept insurance?

Coverage details are listed on our Insurance & Payment Information page. Because plans vary, we recommend contacting us with your insurance information so we can help you understand your options.

How much does a session cost?

Costs depend on the type of service and your insurance coverage. Please visit our Insurance & Payment Information page or contact us for current fee information.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our office will review our appointment and cancellation policies with you when you schedule. If you have questions in the meantime, please call 757.503.2819.

Sessions & Telehealth

How long are sessions, and how often will I attend?

Session length and frequency depend on the service and on the plan you and your counselor create together. Your counselor will talk with you about what makes sense for your goals.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person counseling?

Many people find telehealth to be a convenient and helpful way to receive counseling. Your counselor can talk with you about whether virtual sessions, in-person sessions or a mix of both is the best fit. Learn more on our Telehealth page.

What do I need for a telehealth session?

Generally, you will need a private, quiet space, a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone. You must be located in Virginia at the time of your session. Our team will share how to join when your appointment is scheduled.

Where do I fill out paperwork?

New and current clients may be asked to complete forms through our Client Portal. Our office will let you know what is needed before your first visit.

Privacy & Emergencies

Is what I share in counseling confidential?

Yes, generally what you share with your counselor is kept confidential. There are standard limits to confidentiality, such as when there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, when abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult must be reported, or when records are required by a court order. Your counselor will review this with you at the start of counseling.

Can I contact my counselor in an emergency?

Our practice is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. In a mental health emergency, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
