On Saturday, October 10, 2026, members of the Artisan Counseling family joined hundreds of neighbors at Buckroe Beach Park in Hampton for the Virginia Peninsula Out of the Darkness Walk, hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
Despite some windy weather, the turnout was incredible. More than 440 walkers across 67 teams came together to raise awareness and funding for suicide prevention in our community.

Our Team Raised the Most of All 67 Teams
We’re proud to share that the “In Honor of Nancy Smith” team, led by Abby Brundage, LCSW of Artisan Counseling, raised $2,430.31, the highest total of all 67 teams that participated. Altogether, the walk raised more than $27,000 to bring additional suicide prevention resources to the Hampton Roads area.
So many people from different parts of Abby’s family’s life showed up to walk, donate, and cheer the team on. To everyone who gave their time or money: thank you. Your support means more than words can express.

Why This Cause Matters to Us
As a counseling practice serving Hampton Roads, we see every day how much connection, hope, and access to care can change a person’s story. Events like the Out of the Darkness Walk help break the silence around mental health and suicide, and they fund education, research, and local support programs that save lives.
You Can Still Help
The walk is over, but the mission continues. Donations are still open to help bring more suicide prevention resources to Hampton Roads: donate to the Virginia Peninsula Out of the Darkness Walk.
